Rev. Rafael Reyes III was born on January 7, 1976 to parents Rev. Rafael Reyes II and Rev. Juanita Reyes. He is the youngest of three siblings, his sisters are Damaris Miranda and Myrna Maysonet. Rafael grew up in the interstices of Spanish Harlem, where his father served as pastor of Bethany Christian Church at 103rd St. between Lexington and Park Ave, and Queensbridge Projects.
Rev. Reyes is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Religion: Process Studies at Claremont Lincoln University. His interests lie in constructive theology that is informed by process philosophy, liberation theology, and ecological theology, within a Hispanic Pentecostal context.
Prior to this, he received a Master of Sacred Theology in Process Studies from Drew University, a Master of Divinity at New York Theological Seminary, and a Master of Arts in New Testament at Alliance Theological Seminary.
Rev. Reyes has served as pulpit supply and as bible teacher in his time at the Disciples of Christ. He has served at Abundant Joy Community Church. Prior to this, he has served in Disciples of Christ Church in Jersey City. Before joining the Disciples of Christ, Rafael served as a licensed minister at Spanish Eastern District Assemblies of God. He has served as pulpit supply, teacher, bass player, as well as in media/web design services. Rafael has also served in a District/Regional level working in Youth Ministries for the Spanish Eastern District Assemblies of God. Rafael has served as a youth pastor for John 3:16 Long Island City.
Rev. Reyes worked at New York Theological Seminary, serving as adjunct faculty for the Sing Sing program, teaching Biblical Studies. He also served as a teaching assistant in the area of hermeneutics and ministry.
Rev. Reyes serves as managing editor for the Journal of World Christianity, as well as the Social Media Manager for New York Theological Seminary. In addition, he writes for the Visionaries of Christ Ministry Site on topics of ministerial leadership.
Rev. Reyes is married to his beautiful wife, Vanessa Rios-Reyes, and together they have one son, Rafael Reyes IV.
