One of the most effective ways of gathering focus in your church is to have a mission as well as goals that can be promoted throughout the year. It becomes helpful as you work on reaching out to your congregation and communities in your area. There are many areas to develop a yearly mission, but one suggestion is to simply define a mission by looking at what your church stands for, its values and its purpose.
As a next step, we now ask a question. How do we project the vision and mission to both church and community? I believe that one of the firsts things to do is to focus on a theme that metaphorical describes the mission and goal. A good theme can be creative, inspiring and distinctive to your own church. Some good samples might be “Walking in Faith”, “No Limits”, “Making a Difference”, “Going Forward”, etc. Don’t be shy, this will be a good opportunity to get your leaders together and take part in choosing a theme.
While there are many benefits in promoting your mission. Here are just a few:
- Your congregation will have a clear understanding of what the focus will be for the year and will keep them united working together for that goal. Without it, they may find themselves in an endless repetitive weekly cycle.
- Pastors can also use this theme throughout the year in their sermons and teachings in way to motivate the congregation.
- You may also have theme related events and services that you can now promote and invite others as a way of evangelizing.
- By utilizing this theme in your marketing material, the church will also stand out and attract visitors from inside and outside of your community.
Some areas where you can use your theme are:
- Service Visuals
- Website
- Postcards

- Banners
